AI Assistant Integrates Vehicle Data for Real-Time, Accurate Responses
Ford and Lincoln announced on August 11, 2026, that they will introduce a new AI vehicle owner assistant in their Ford and Lincoln mobile apps. The service is expected to cover 8 million Ford and Lincoln owners worldwide, integrating vehicle telemetry data to allow owners to query vehicle-related information through conversation instead of flipping through paper manuals. Ford stated that the AI assistant will provide precise and personalized responses based on the owner’s specific vehicle model and real-time vehicle status, including fuel levels, load capacity, towing limits, and maintenance schedules.
Ford further explained that owners can ask the AI assistant about fuel requirements for long-distance trips or assess whether their vehicle can safely tow a boat of a specific weight. Additionally, owners can upload photos for the system to automatically evaluate whether the vehicle can carry or tow a particular load. The service will roll out in phases, aiming to cover all Ford and Lincoln owners without requiring them to wait for new vehicle releases. Ford emphasized that this initiative will significantly simplify the process of checking vehicle status and enhance owners’ control over their vehicles.
In-Vehicle System Integration by 2027, Operating Independently Without Third-Party Platforms
Ford plans to integrate the AI assistant directly into in-vehicle systems by 2027, eliminating reliance on third-party interfaces such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Ford noted that this integration will allow the AI assistant to connect more deeply with vehicle systems, providing more immediate and comprehensive services. During the transition phase, Ford’s Android-based in-vehicle system, "Ford & Lincoln Digital Experiences," will be the first to incorporate Google Gemini, supporting navigation, messaging, and media playback functions.
Ford stressed that the AI assistant is designed with an open architecture, compatible with multiple large language models, and will evolve alongside Ford’s Level 3 "eyes-off-road" driving assistance system. Ford stated that this technological deployment aims to enhance vehicle intelligence and maintain competitiveness in automotive technology. Currently, the AI assistant service will be offered free of charge to all Ford and Lincoln owners, though Ford has not disclosed whether a paid or subscription model will be introduced in the future.
Ford indicated that launching the AI assistant through mobile apps first allows for faster reach to existing owners and reduces dependence on new vehicle releases. This service not only demonstrates Ford’s innovative deployment in smart services but also provides owners with a more convenient way to manage their vehicles. The introduction of the AI assistant is expected to further reduce owners’ reliance on traditional paper manuals and improve the convenience and safety of vehicle use.
