Record Orders at Auto Show with AION V as the Top Choice
GAC Indonesia announced at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) that it had received a total of 2,170 new vehicle orders. The AION V electric SUV led with 1,122 orders, accounting for over half of the total. The AION UT urban hatchback secured 711 orders, while the HYPTEC HT model received 166 orders. Andry Ciu, CEO of GAC Indonesia, stated that these orders reflect a shift in Indonesian consumers' demand for electric vehicles, moving from basic efficiency to higher levels of comfort and technological experience.
During the auto show, GAC attracted 1,642 test drives, with the AION V emerging as the most popular model. GAC Indonesia emphasized that the development of the AION V prioritized customer needs, conducting global market research to focus on quality, technology, and safety. The vehicle features an "Urban Zero-Pressure Suspension Cabin" design, highlighting spacious interiors and intelligent human-machine interfaces, along with active and passive safety systems. The AION V has earned dual five-star safety ratings from ANCAP in Australia and Euro NCAP in Europe.
AION V and AION UT Pricing and Specifications Revealed
The AION V is available in Indonesia in Exclusive and Luxury versions, priced at 499 million Indonesian rupiah (approximately $30,800) and 560 million rupiah (approximately $34,600), respectively. During the auto show, promotional prices for the two models were reduced to approximately 450 million and 470 million rupiah. The AION V is equipped with a high-strength body structure and battery protection system, optimized for long-distance driving.
The AION UT serves as GAC’s flagship model in Indonesia’s medium-sized electric hatchback segment, with 121 units delivered in June 2026, making it the best-selling model in its category. The vehicle is built on GAC’s AEP 3.0 electric platform and features a 47.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Its front-mounted motor delivers a maximum power of 100 kW and torque of 145 Nm, with a range of 400 kilometers and support for 24-minute fast charging from 30% to 80%. GAC Indonesia noted that while the AION UT retains its European design aesthetic, adjustments were made to cabin comfort and operational interfaces to better suit local market preferences.
Customer Feedback Drives Product Upgrades
Sean Xiong, Product Director for the AION V, highlighted that the vehicle’s development began with a deep understanding of user needs rather than simply adding features. GAC collaborated across design centers in Los Angeles, Milan, and Shanghai to integrate feedback from users in multiple countries, creating products tailored to diverse market demands. Andry Ciu emphasized that the high proportion of premium versions among GIIAS orders indicates that Indonesian consumers’ expectations for electric vehicles have risen to a higher level.
GAC Indonesia operates in partnership with the local Indomobil Group, with a vehicle strategy that addresses both urban commuting and long-distance family travel needs. The AION UT is positioned as an urban commuter, while the AION V targets the family SUV market, together accounting for 84% of GIIAS orders. GAC stated that this strategy will not only apply to Indonesia but will also expand to markets such as the Philippines in Southeast Asia, with ongoing product optimizations based on local feedback.
